This table is a true heirloom quality piece of furniture. The dimensions and structure of this beauty are calculated and crafted according to the birthdate(s) of the person, or people purchasing this piece. We then apply the Golden Ratio to establish the final length, height and width. The result is not immediately obvious to the eye, rather it is felt when you look at the table. Something just seems ‘right’ about it. Given the uniqueness of this piece, I work closely with the client of this table during the design process to be sure the dimensions and subtle details match the numerology of the purchaser. We discuss the length, width, color and even the number of pegs which hold the slabs of oak together. It’s this level of detail which truly personalizes this table to you and your loved ones. Since Oak tends to have a number of knots in it, I install bow ties to keep cracks from forming and spreading. This adds a deep level of stability to the integrity of the table. Not only this, but the look and detail found in these bow ties is absolutely stunning! Additionally, I use 3 pieces of steel C-channel installed horizontally along the bottom of the three slabs to ensure that they do not warp or bow. The result is a table top which will remain perfectly flat for generations to come.
The crafting process:
We start with three pieces of two inch thick reclaimed oak slabs, plane them to about 1.75”, clean the edges and glue them together. You choose how you want the live edges to look. The ‘sharp edge’ can either be on the top or the bottom of the table. We then add the bow ties where needed and router in the steel C-channel along the bottom. The bases of the table are crafted from reclaimed Oak 4x4’s. The 4x4’s are trimmed, planned to dimension and cut to size. The angles used to craft the bases depend upon what your numerology specifies and the Golden Ratio is used in the final dimensions. The bases are held to the slab top using bolts which allows for easy assembly.
Finish:
We use a hard wax to finish this piece. This ensures a long life since dings and blemishes can be repaired without having to
